And so ends another chapter
Written by admin on Sep 30th, 2004 and posted in 2004, On the RoadWell, I'm back at work today, with workmates admiring facial hair and tanlines.
I'm glad I was with the team at the finish, even if I wasn't there at the start. It was quite sad to see everyone go off their separate ways, Yuichi to Tokyo and back to Uni, Cameron on his bike to head for the southernmost tip of Kyushu, Emilie to Okinawa, Nerys back to Gunma, and Jennie back to America, and me to ride home to Fukuoka. You have all provided me with challenges that I wouldn't normally have (and I mean that in a good way…honest!! )
Also glad that everyone could acheive their personal goals, as well as individual – not only is it journey as a team, but also a very personal journey I think. I know I have said it to death in the last week, but I really can't imagine what it is like for the five of you who have travelled the entire length. And my final personal goal was safely acheived, after 15 hours (14 on the bike!) – to get home. Emilie, Nerys, Jennie, singing me off with the Jitensha song – guys, do you realize how damaging for mental health that can be to have that song stuck in your head for that length of continuous riding!? (probably I guess!) But seriously that really helped me so much in my ride home.
I am sure I will see you all again, and Alice and Daniela, I hope we get to meet at some point! And all of you, if you're ever in Kyushu, give me a yell, and I'll buy you a beer and drag you up a mountain!
