The road goes ever on and on…
Written by Juank on Sep 12th, 2008 and posted in On the RoadSo, today we are all taking a day of rest in Fukui, after a long week riding everyday up and down mountains from Tokyo to Nagoya and then up north to Fukui. Emi had told me that after I joined the group in Tokyo there will be some hills waiting for us, but I never imagined the road that was laying in front of us.
On August 31st I finally go to meet all the team for the first time at Heaven’s Door in Shimokitazawa. That night I got to get a filling of the team spirit and the great personalities I would be joining for the next 5 weeks; and we also got to enjoy some really nice, as well as some really peculiar music, the latter which has being bringing up laughs everytime we remember and start mumbling strange sounds all together.
That night I ended up packing my stuff, trying not forget anything as well trying not to bring anything I didnt really need. Packing lightly must be one of the first lessons of this eco-cycling tour. Living the simple way as some call it.
The next morning at 8:30am I was ready to go, said goodbye to my girlfriend, and went down the road that would lead me to a wonderful adventure. After going all across Tokyo, passing Ueno, the imperial palace, Shinjuku, and many other busy districts, I finally got to Koganei where I was joining the team for a few more riding up the Tama River to Oume where we were staying that night. Our host was a well travelled cyclist, and an employee at a Sake Company, which was a great combination for a good night of stories, drinking, laughs, and some hung over riders the next morning.
