Bicycle for Everyone’s Earth

Cat

Hi, my name is Cat, and I’m finishing up a one-year contract teaching English in southern Hokkaido. Before coming to Japan, I worked on an organic farm at home in the U.S. and as a health education volunteer in west Africa, among other things. Since being outdoors and cycling are two of my passions, I’m really looking forward to riding with the B.E.E. group and enjoying the beauty of Japan from my bicycle seat. I’m also excited to practice and promote lifestyle choices that will keep the earth clean and beautiful far into the future.

Teary Eyes and Good-Byes

So friends, we`ve finished it. All the way. We`re done. Yesterday morning we rode up and down the last few hills and ended at Cape Sata, the southernmost point of Kyushu. It was a rather melancholic moment as we looked out over the sea, reflected on the things we`ve learned and experienced during the last [...]

KAGOSHIMA!!

After a delicious brunch provided by the Fukuda winery, we rode 130 kilometers through the rain today. That`s our longest day yet! (except for Colin Hood, who rode in circles one day until he had ridden a century)
A group of friendly local JETs welcomed us and watched as we rather deliriously celebrated our arrival. We [...]

Mercedes and the Small Dog (backup to Fuji, Sept. 4/5)

By Cat • Sep 29th, 2008 • Category: 2008

A brief explanatory introduction:
This blog post is fictional, based on an idea that stemmed from our inspiring experiences at Fuji Eco-Park.
Mercedes is Amiena`s mom. We`ve all heard many wonderful stories about her mettle and spunk – and we get to see it in Amiena every day – but none of us have met her, though [...]

The Start to a Wonderful Weekend

By Cat • Sep 4th, 2008 • Category: 2008

Rain is pitter-pattering on the tarp stretched over the balcony, and I am sitting outside at a wooden picnic table, looking down through the trees on the swollen river, and sipping an organic brown ale. I can`t say that I`m sad to be off the bike today.
I love my bike, and I love riding it. [...]

One Day…

It runs against my nature to hastily compile a haphazard collection of words that are intended to give other people an idea of what is currently happening with the BEE team. Given the option, I`d prefer to spend a few hours hovering over the mini-laptop, fingers scrunched together on the tiny keyboard, tapping and clicking, [...]
