I grew up on a small hobby farm in Maple Grove, MN, USA. As a child, I spent a good amount of my time wandering through the woods and fields, investigating this or that, climbing trees, and learning to appreciate nature. I was lucky enough to visit France, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, and all kinds of interesting and natural places in America during my childhood, thanks to my parents.
From there, I moved to the shore of Lake Superior to attend university in Duluth. While there, I was a member of the Cross-country running and Track & Field teams. I graduated from the University of MN - Duluth in 2005 with a degree in Outdoor/Environmental Education.
After a variety of positions ranging from State Park Operations, to Wilderness Ranger in Montana, I found my way back to Duluth.
I began coaching Cross-country running, Nordic skiing, and Track for the Marshall School. Continental Ski & Bike also hired me as a manager.
In 2008, I decided to follow a life-long dream and come to Japan on the JET Program. I was placed on the beautiful island of Ojika, off the western coast of Kyushu. On this small island of only 3000 people, I have been having an amazing time teaching English, learning Japanese language and culture, making new friends, and exploring the island by bicycle!

Yeah! Chris is in Tokyo, and his bike is successfully on it’s way to Wakkanai. My bike just got picked up by Sagawa Transport half an hour ago. For some reason I couldn’t get my front tire in the box, and I had no time, so I’ll be carrying that with me on the train! [...]

I sit here at the computer, trying to escape the summer heat. The rainy season has ended on Ojika, and the sun and cicadas are out. Tuesday marked my last day of work at the schools. From here on out, I’ll be finishing ride preparations, attending farewell parties, and getting things ready for the next [...]
